New Mac Pros Coming This Tuesday? MacBook Pros To Follow?

According to ZDNet they have been receiving tips that come as early as this very Tuesday, a mere five days from now, Apple will be finally updating its top-of-the-line Mac Pro.

Also, according to these tips, it will be a real whopper too, because for one thing it will supposedly be including Intel's latest and greatest piece of kit - the Xeon Core i7-980x!

The new processor is a six-core chip, Intel's first, offering these impressive specs:

- 3.33GHz (TurboBoost to 3.6GHz)

- 6 cores / 12 threads

- 32nm architecture

- Socket LGA1366

- 130W TDP

Oh, la,la.... now that's what I call a yummy of an update!

You can learn more about this new fabulous six-core, twelve-threaded Xeon Core i7-980x wonder chip here, but one thing is for sure, if true, this would indeed help make it one of the biggest, fastest, baddest and most powerful Mac Pro updates to have come out of Cupertino - ever!

These are still just that - rumors, and, of course, at this point, I must also point out that it's not exactly the first time we've heard about such rumors. However, that said, the Mac Pro has been long overdue and in need of a refresh, so the timing seems to be just about right. For me, this dream machine is just that, a mere dream, and to be quite honest, for the average Joe the Mac Pro is probably more than they ever will really need or could ever justify in price, but, hey, if you got the cash, (you lucky stiff) then, by all means, go for it! I sure wish I could.

If it is indeed true, and Apple does indeed release this new power house, then I hope that they go beyond just plopping in that spiffy new Core i7. I hope that they go farther by adding something extra, something like, oh, I don't know, maybe some better and more up-to-date graphic cards for a change. A fast cpu running on a super fast bus is great and all, but coupled with an antiquated, underpowered graphic card, from last year of all things, as Apple has been known to do, really seems just a wee bit weird and out of place to me.

Also, that cheese grater case design is beginning to grate on my nerves. The box isn't really all that ugly or anything, but hey, for crying out pizza with anchovies, that stupid thing has more holes in it than my big, fat head! I like to see an updated Mac Pro with a new super slick looking external case design, you know, something along the lines of the striking beautiful new 27 inch iMac. I suppose that I shouldn't really complain since I can't really afford to buy one in the first place, but hey..... I can still dream, can't I?

What's more important, for me anyway, is could any updated Mac Pro also be indication that Apple is also readying to release an even more important update - a new i3, i5 or an i7 equipped MacBook Pro? It too, like the Mac Pro, has been long, long overdue for an update and what better way than to finally add in one of those Intel's latest cpu powerhouses.

I hope so, because as a product category, Apple will sell considerable more MacBook Pros than they ever have, or ever will sell in the Mac Pro desktop line! The MacBook Pro is probably the biggest and most successful selling Apple computer of all time, and it deserves to be. It's the sexiest and the most ergonomically designed laptop out there ever - period, and the one that ever one compares all others to, and so much so that the competition loves aping its every move and its look, as can be seen clearly in HP's Envy line.

In conclusion, I'm really hoping that come this Tuesday I will wake up to see this new dream i7-980x Mac Pro, and it will be one update that is, hopefully, followed shortly by an affordable i3, i5 or i7 equipped MacBook Pro. In the meantime, between now and this coming Tuesday, well I'm going out to buy myself some more lottery tickets, just in case, because you never really know, you know?
